The Importance of Theological Education in the Church

The need to equip the saints for works of ministry is clearly spelled out in the Scriptures through God’s servant, the apostle Paul.

Ephesians 4:11-14 (CSB)

11 And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness. 14 Then we will no longer be little children, tossed by the waves and blown around by every wind of teaching, by human cunning with cleverness in the techniques of deceit.

Theological education holds a vital place in the life and growth of the church. It serves as the foundation for sound doctrine, spiritual maturity, and effective ministry. Through the study of theology, believers deepen their understanding of God’s Word, equipping themselves to discern truth from error in an increasingly complex world.

Moreover, theological education strengthens the church’s mission. It prepares individuals to communicate the gospel clearly and compassionately, address ethical challenges, and serve with wisdom and integrity. By investing in theological training, the church ensures that its witness remains vibrant, relevant, and faithful to the teachings of Christ. GCF Pampanga in partner with Eli-Asia makes this possible.

The pursuit of theological education is an act of stewardship—nurturing the gifts God has given and equipping the body of Christ for service in the world. It is an essential investment in the ongoing health and vitality of the church.

What Eli-Asia brings to the theological landscape of the church of Jesus Christ.

The traditional approach to attaining theological education may take three to four years to complete depending on what theological course one takes. And on many occasions, takes the member of a church away from his/her home church to go to a seminary a great distance away. This is where Eli-Asia comes in to provide optimal biblical education without the need to pull out members of a church away from church family to pursue their theological equipping. They can receive theological training even in their own church if they have the facility.

The courses offered are accessible, not burdensome in terms of the number of subjects to learn in one course. The bi-weekly schedule is light; there is ample time for students to accomplish the assigned exercises and the courses are easy on the budget as well. They can do it at a time they are able even while they earn a living for their family.

GCF Pampanga is blessed to be working alongside Eli-Asia to provide essential theological training in an accessible, easy and not costly package.

The unique contribution of the Eli-Asia model of education are such:

  • Concise bite-size sessions giving the student a useful working outline on many subjects and books of the bible.
  • Cost effective. The cost of attaining sound biblical education at affordable cost.
  • No need to spend a great deal of time away from church family to be biblically trained.
  • Knowledge can be immediately applied; as the student learns he/she may immediately teach God’s word whenever the opportunity presents itself.

In short, the student need not spend a heap to go to a seminary to get training in God’s word, moreover the courses provided by Eli-Asia gives the student a birds-eye view of the biblical landscape so that he may do the study discovering the truth of God’s word on his own. Strong conviction of biblical truth is formed through self discovery.

A well-rounded theological education empowers church leaders and members alike to engage thoughtfully with scripture, tradition, and contemporary issues. It fosters unity by providing a shared language and framework for faith, while also encouraging humility and openness to diverse perspectives within the Christian community.

Lastly, the thing I like most about this training is that it fosters a strong bond of brotherhood between member of GCF Pampanga, and also other like-minded and like-hearted churches. The fun and laughter that arise during the discussion is irreplaceable and can’t be experience in a rigid seminary education setting.

2 Peter 3:18 (CSB)

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

For the Glory of Christ,

Pastor Raymond Co

Principal for GCF Pampanga School of Ministry
